This program introduces students to a variety of African drums,
some of which are old and rare. Beginning with a demonstration of the tone,
purpose, and origin of each drum, Mister Saleem then explains how African
drums are traditionally used to communicate. Students are invited onto the
stage to practice such techniques as call and response with the drum and other
communicative techniques. This exciting program demonstrates to students the
connection between percussive music and language, and ends with fifteen students
and teachers on stage with a drum for a massive drum call.
